The Idea was to depict a horse running through tall grass , a metaphor for TIME
The horse was modeled in cardboard to express the strength and movement..
Creating a 1/3rd scale horse plus its base would be the same height as a real horse , 14 hands at the withers.
The shapes started to take on the feeling of Armour, a protective covering of steel that would make the horse indestructible!
Each new piecee had to be strong on its own and had to fit together with the other pieces.
Standing on top of the anvil where it was made. the horse balances on it’s left hind leg both physically and visually.
A fundamental element of the success of these projects was the use of extensive physical and 3D computer modeling to refine and resolve design issues, prior to construction. Modelling helped refine the proportions and size of all the elements, optimize lighting (night time) and provided parameters for construction logistics (assembly).
